The power gap is not marginal - it is an order of magnitude

The honest limitation: humidity

An evaporative cooler works by pulling warm air through water-soaked pads. The water evaporates, the evaporation absorbs heat, and the air that reaches you is cooler. That mechanism depends entirely on the air having room to absorb more moisture.

  • Below roughly 40% relative humidity - a cooler performs excellently. Dry-heat regions such as Delhi NCR, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, western Madhya Pradesh and much of the Deccan in peak summer fall here.

Getting the best out of a cooler

  1. Leave a window or door partly open. This is the single most common mistake. A cooler is not an AC - it needs a path for humid air to leave, or the room slowly turns muggy.
  2. Position it so it draws fresh outside air rather than recirculating the same room air.
  3. Keep the pads clean. Scaled or clogged pads choke airflow and cut cooling noticeably.
  4. Run it on medium at night. High speed all night adds noise and moisture without much extra comfort once the room has come down.
  5. Do not overfill on humid days. Less water in circulation means less moisture released.
